We’re going to think about a planetary health agenda, now that we’ve pretty much just focused on our institutions, states, and federal government policy making. We’re going to consider if we can influence planetary healthcare policy.
Right now is a good time for this with the pandemic and global warming and droughts and on and on. How are we in this spot? A good deal related to COVID is that there was no admission about COVID from China, the WHO, and so on back in September of 2019 when Chinese physicians were first noting something going on. Countries such as Japan didn’t quarantine cruise ship staff and passengers and so on. What planetary healthcare policies could have made a difference and would these countries and ours have paid attention and followed them?
We see now that there were mistakes made that were serious in every country and there is a scary set of new variants/mutations coming out all the time with this very different type of virus. It seems to never end and COVID seems to be a very different type of virus. My big question is why the WHO didn’t admit what was going on and intervene sooner. Can they intervene even? What powers do they have to actually make a difference? What is their agenda?
“Think globally, act locally” and “It takes a village” are things that we say and try to show that we need to think beyond our homes and communities. Do we take that seriously?
