Fior Ramirez worked as a housekeeper for ABC Lodging in Florida. After her father in the Dominican Republic suffered a stroke, she asked her employer for time off to be with him. Ramirez’s manager refused the request. Two days later, the manager received a call from Fior Ramirez saying that she was with her father, He died about a week later, and Ramirez returned to work. Her manager had told her that she had abandoned her position and no longer had a job. Ramirez applied for Unemployment compensation.
