Welcome, Class, to the English 101 Essay, Draft 1 assignment. For
this assignment, you will write a creative and engaging, well-organized, well-
stated, well-detailed, well-supported, well-referenced, well-documented, well-
punctuated and grammatically correct five- to six-paragraph six hundred-word
response to one of the writing prompts below.
1. Read Benedicte Brahic’s “The Politics of Bi-Nationality in Couple
Relationships: A Case Study of European Bi-national Couples in
Manchester,” and write a legible, creative and engaging, well-organized, well-
stated, well-detailed, well-supported, well-referenced, well-documented, well-
punctuated and grammatically correct five- to six-paragraph six hundred-word
literary response in support of binational relationships and marriages.

The essay should include at least three references from Brahic’s article, as well as
a combined three or more references from two additional thesis-related
scholarly sources, a total of six, to support your claim.

Essay Formatting
The essay should be neat and academically appropriate, following the MLA mechanics
and formatting requirements set forth by the English Department. It must be typed on
plain white unlined computer paper, no onionskin, erasable, or fragrances, and all
perforations removed. Papers not in compliance with these standards may receive a

Margins
The top, bottom, left and right margins must be formatted 1 inch.
Spacing
Double-space the entire report, including the heading information.
Stapling & Clipping
Your paper should be stapled once in the top left-hand corner or paper clipped.
Font and Font Size
The research paper must be typed, using standard 12-point Times New Roman font.

Heading
Write your full name (first, MI & surname), instructor’s name, course, section number, and the due date once in the upper left-hand corner, double-spaced, 1 inch below the top
of the page. If submitting a revision, double space after the heading and write the essay
number or the words Final Draft and Revision. The heading should appear on the first
page only. On the bottom center of each page beginning with page 2, write the page
number. This should also appear on all subsequent pages of the report, including the
Works Cited page.
Title
All essays must have a title, following MLA guidelines for capitalization. Center the title,
double-spacing after the heading and before the first paragraph. Your title should not be
underlined, italicized, or placed within quotation marks except for the names of published
works that may be included, following MLA guidelines for punctuation in titles.
Text
The mandated minimum word count for the essay is 600 words, not including the title or
MLA documentation. Each paragraph should be indented 5 spaces or 1/2 inch. The paper
