There are many issues that the nursing profession is currently facing including practice barriers that prevent nurses from utilizing their full set of skills and knowledge (National Academies, 2015). A report from the National Academies (2015) shares that “States, federal agencies, and health care organizations should remove scope of practice barriers that hinder nurses from practicing to the full extent of their education and training,…” Considering the barriers that currently exist, or might exit in the future, think of one barrier in particular and please respond to the following prompts:
How you can make an impact on this issue in your workplace or future workplace. What challenges will this present and what steps you will take, and the outcome you hope to achieve?
What changes to the profession, which would remove barriers, would you like to see on a local level, in your workplace, or on a regional or national level?
