This lab helps you understand how the elements Carbon and Nitrogen cycle through living (bio) and nonliving (geo) components of earth (organisms, air, water, and earth). In this lab, you simulate the carbon cycle, and learn how human interactions disrupt natural cycles of the ecosystem.
Objectives:
To understand how elements (carbon nitrogen and phosphorous) naturally move through the ecosystem
To analyze how humans alter these cycles, and the effects on earth’s air, water or land
To formulate and test hypothesis in performing simulation experiments
Apply these concepts in real-life, and propose solutions to minimize eutrophication
Learning from these biogeochemical cycles ties into future course topics of water pollution, air pollution, biodiversity, energy sources, and climate change.
To do this lab, two documents are needed:
First, view the Lab Background
Next, complete the Lab Report.
