Question:
You will face many challenges while working towards your MSW. Some may experience challenges that you experienced while you were in your undergraduate studies and others may be new challenges for you such as imposter syndrome (that everyone else knows what there doing but you feel you don’t belong and that you’re a fraud). There may also be physical or emotional challenges during your time in the MSW program. Graduate school can be very intense and stressful. So, don’t be caught off guard when life happens and you find yourself in need of support and encouragement.
For your journal entry this week, identify feelings you have as you enter the MSW program as well as fears and concerns you have starting the program. If you are experiencing imposter syndrome, own it, and write your thoughts concerning this. Next, create a mantra for yourself. A mantra is a calming phrase that helps you center yourself. It may or may not have a spiritual connotation. Take time and think on this. You may want to write several possibilities on a separate page to help you decide what your mantra for graduate school will be. Next identify possible resources that can help you address the challenges you may experience. Please include university resources you may be aware of, community resources such clubs and faith communities, places that bring you peace such as coffee shops, parks, museums, ect., family or friends you can call on a rough day, and any other supports you can think of to help you face the challenges ahead.
