For this paper, the scholar will select a
behavioral theory, a target population, and health behavior. Then the scholar will develop
constitutive and operational definitions of all or at least five constructs of the theory;
generate items for the constructs; choose scales and develop an instrument. The scholar
will then ask the scholars of the class (at least four) or other doctoral scholars to serve as
panelists and will establish face and content validity of the instrument in two rounds. Then
the scholar will finalize the instrument based on this process. The scholar will have to
submit the definitions, the letters to the panel, the original instrument and the final
instrument for grading. The word limit does not apply to this assignment. The assignment
will be graded in the following way: (1) Definitions: 50 points; (2) Letters: 50 points; (3)
Quality of the final instrument: 100 points.
