The purpose of this discussion board is to reflect on the lessons we have learned about our cultures from agents of socialization. Please reflect a bit about the lessons that you learned from your earliest socializers, how those lessons compare or differ from what you learned from your peers as an adolescent, and how any of those lessons differ from what you see in one of the
“Optional” socialization videos referred to in, “How does a human become a person? Part 2.”
Please note that I require that you watch one of the optional videos and the video titled, “An Early Lesson.”
You will be able to see what your colleagues have posted after you post your own ideas.
Interacting with others is encouraged, but not required.
Rubric:
Part 1: Describe/explain at least two lessons you learned about culture from your family or earliest caregivers. (1 point)
Part 2: Describe/explain how your experiences with peer groups compare to the lessons you learned in Part
1. Did your peers teach you anything different compared to your family or earliest caregivers, or were they in harmonv with each other? (2 noints)
Part 3: Describe/explain how the lessons you have learned over the course of your life from Part 1 and/or
Part 2 compare to the lessons portrayed in the (Optional) videos from this module (i.e. Health care workers, Jail, Marines, or Serbian Mental Health Institution). (2 points. Make sure to be explicit about which videos you are using for comparison as well as the content of the video that you are using for comparison. If| can’t tell, you get zero points for this section.)
