The purpose of this assignment is self-reflection regarding the therapeutic process and one’s own role in that process as a provider. Through reflective practice, the student will evaluate his/her own emotional intelligence as defined as the capacity to recognize one’s own feelings as well as other’s and one’s ability to monitor and manage those feelings. Look for themes of transference, countertransference, prejudice/biases/judgments that you may be making about a particular patient or type of patients or that they are verbalizing about you. In doing this exercise, you should learn about yourself, your triggers, the types of cases you end up getting overly involved with and those you’d rather refer to someone else. The idea is to be able to personally step back and analyze your behaviors/thoughts/decisions and how those impact both you and your patients. The paper is to be one-to-two pages in length, double-spaced (APA format) For full credit your documentation must address all items in the Rubric, specific details of your feelings. Use of the rubric as a guide in your written assignment is encouraged.
A different client is to be used for each Diagnostic Assessment and Self Reflection Journal Entry.
All assignments are to be based on clients seen this semester at your clinical placement in therapy for this course. You may not use clients you see in your work setting or have encountered in previous semesters.
