The final report is a 1500-word, double-spaced essay. You will use this essay to analyse how original
science is represented in news media.
You will select a recent scientific study that has been published in a peer reviewed journal within the last
two years and has been reported on in the media. You will analyse how the science has been reported
by at least two printed news media outlets (not video or audio).
The essay should consist of the following major components:
● A title
● Introduction
● Thesis statement
● Exposition
● Conclusion
● References (APA or MLA style)
The introduction should include your understanding of the scientific article and its significance for the
scientific community and society in general. The thesis statement will be your concise view of how the
news media has interpreted the article for the general public. Then you will use the exposition to argue
this point in more detail.
