Course Reflection: Self-Analysis of Your Learning
Metacognition is “thinking about one’s thinking planning, monitoring, and assessing processes and actions to understand them.
Think of this as a sort mindfulness, an awareness of what is going on in the moment. To be sure, the comparison breaks down on some levels; with mindfulness, there is no critique, and metacognition asks you to DO something with the reflection.
When we practice metacognition with writing, we can develop awareness of what we are doing, why we are doing it, what practices are effective, and what practices are not. We can use these observations to learn to write things that matter to us and which allow us to achieve our purposes.
This learning reflection is about metacognition. I want you to explore your growth as a writer (thinker, reader, and arguer are implicit in being a writer) by discussing, analyzing and evaluating your work over the course of this semester: :
How did you see yourself as a writer at the start of the semester? What strengths did you see? What areas did you feel like you needed work on? (You can review your early LRPs) Do not talk about time mangament t unless it connects to a writing skill or learning
How did you use your writing over the course of the semester to further develop your strengths as well as improve on your weaker areas? How do you see yourself as a writer right now?
Analyze your work in the three major projects (civic, personal, and professional) to illustrate your deepening awareness of rhetoric and reasoning. . Be specific. It’s fine to critique your work, but I want you to only explore places where you need to grow rather than diminish yourself. In other words, set a goal instead of making a judgment of inadequacy. I do not expect you to use sources to support analysis of your work, You don’t have to quote anything but do use exact language.
Discuss any texts, feedback or moments that have lingered with you and why in terms of your learning about Writing in Various Situations.
Please note this is not a numbered questionnaire, but a response. There are a variety of ways to organize this reflection Your inquiry question is what have I learned about myself as a writer and arguer in personal, civic and professional situations?
Please double space.
Definitely use first person since you are writing about yourself, but do not use second person.
Write plainly, clearly, exactly, as yourself in your voice as an appreciate writer leaving this course.
