Culture has been compared to an iceberg. Just as an iceberg has a visible section above the waterline, and a larger invisible section below the water line, so culture has some aspects that are observable and others that can only be suspected, imagined, or intuited. Also, like an iceberg, that part of culture that is visible (observable behavior) is only a small part of a much bigger whole. Generally, there is a relationship between the items that appear above the water line and those below. In most cases the invisible aspects of culture influence or cause the visible ones. Religious beliefs (invisible below the waterline), for example, are clearly manifested in certain holidays (Christmas, Ramadan, Hanukkah) with decorations, cards, etc. Pick three cultural features and describe what you see above the waterline and what cultural perspective this relates to found below the water line.

Hint: think of things that are clearly visible that are a reflection of a deeply held belief; perhaps something that you see across different cultures but is practiced differently in different locations.
