Metoclopramide drug is used in treating diabetes patients with symptoms of slow stomach emptying. The medication increases the movements or the contractions of the stomach and intestines. Although the drug can be used for other purposes, such as preventing vomiting from chemotherapy, it is not recommended for children below one year of age. During administering the drug, the nurse must ensure that the right dosage is taken, avoid over or under dosage, and be administered correctly. Assessing for extrapyramidal symptoms and tardive dyskinesia among older patients is a nursing consideration to adhere. Evaluating gastrointestinal complaints is another nursing consideration related to administering metoclopramide.
