APA governs two things: best practices for both formatting a page and using sources.
The use of the APA format provides researchers with a consistent format they can use every time they write. Consistency helps authors organize their arguments or research efficiently. From the information on the title page to the headers that divide information in the discussion, each section has a predetermined format. Too, APA formatting also helps authors organize ideas along the same lines that researchers use. Even better, when you’re familiar with the different parts of APA, you’ll find it easier to read the resources you find in the library.
We will be using the Purdue Online Writing Lab as the authority for our research for ensuring your paper submission- in your first and final draft as well as in your sources meets basic requirements. The time you spend here will more than pay off for future classes where the use of the APA will be expected and required.
1. What are the main elements that you will be expected to provide in your APA formatted first and final draft of your written paper for this class? Using the information under the “General Format” on the Purdue Online Writing Lab page, identify the four main elements and list and describe their main purpose as it relates to your paper and your paper topic. Be specific on how your particular selected topic should be addressed in each of these sections.
2. How does an APA formatted paper differ from the structure of written work you have learned in previous classes? Explain.
