In this paper, you will examine land use patterns and the relationship between land use and environmental health concerns. You will propose a future strategy for land use to
reduce the public’s exposure to an environmental contaminant of your choice. For
example, how do you propose to restructure zoning laws for industrial sites in order to
change the way that housing developments are built?
The purpose of this assignment is to
practice the critical and contextual environmental thinking skills.
1. Choose one environmental health concern and explain how a rural land use
pattern is important to the amount of exposure that the population has to this contaminant/microorganism/issue.
2. Pick an audience (town council, community group, homeowners association,
parent teachers’ organization (PTA), etc.) and develop a proposal for your future
land use strategy.
3. Use at least 3 peer reviewed articles to support your central message.
Reports should be at least 2-3 pages, double-spaced, with 1” margins and size 12 Times
New Roman font with references in AMA style.
