PEER INTERVIEW AND AUTOMATED TRANSCRIPTION 2
DOCTORAL PROCESS DISTRACTIONS
OVERVIEW
Since individual interviews are the focal point of qualitative research at Liberty University School of Education, it is imperative that beginning researchers learn how to write, ask, record, and transcribe interview questions. Not only is the task of asking good interview questions important, but equally important is how the researcher conducts the interview. For this assignment, you will be focusing on interviewing one of your professor-selected classmates in EDUC 817. Make sure you view the video, “The Primary Means of Qualitative Data Collection: Interviews” (Module 4: Week 4) before you conduct your interviews as it gives many helpful tips to conducting a good interview.
INSTRUCTIONS
For this assignment, you will interview a classmate in this EDUC 817 course. Your professor will pair you up with another person in this class. You and your interview partner will need to schedule an interview at an agreeable time. You should use the questions you developed in Module 4: Week 4 – Doctoral Process Distractions to conduct your interview virtually in Teams. Your classmate’s responses should be audio recorded on your cell phone (in airplane mode), a tablet, or another recording device. It is important to test the audio equipment prior to conducting the interview since the transcription is a required element for the interview. Transcribe this interview by using the free transcription service https://otter.ai/. This transcription service will transcribe your audio interview for you. Transcription services are not 100% accurate, so once you have a copy of your transcribed interview, listen to your interview over and over as you read the transcription. Ensure that your transcription is 100% accurate before uploading your transcript as an assignment by Sunday 11:59pm in Module 7: Week 7.
