This Assignment is called Good Ad/Bad Ad.
Your task is to find and evaluate two examples of advertising and develop a two-page PowerPoint deliverable. On one page you will have a visual of a print or TV ad that you think is effective from a strategic standpoint. One the next page, you will have a visual of an ad that you think is ineffective from a strategic standpoint. By effective/ineffective we are asking you to think about “Is this communication accomplishing its objective?” not just “I liked it or I didn’t like it” (though you may find some highly appealing or potentially offensive ads as well).
On each page, you will write a brief(!) description of:
The target audience for this ad. Be as detailed as you can based on the visual approach of the ad and the medium in which it ran. Remember, marketing begins with customers! (And target markets are NOT “everyone.”)
The specific medium in which it ran: which TV network, magazine, newspaper, etc. (“found it on the internet, cable TV, or YouTube” is NOT specific enough).
Advertising objective: What do you think the marketer was trying to accomplish? Brand awareness? Positive brand positioning? Purchase intent?
Appeals: How are they trying to achieve their objective? Did it work or not work?
