Policies are usually enacted following the outcome of recent events and their coverage through different media types. People’s reactions to various topics such as prison reform, police use of force, and imprisonment versus rehabilitation usually drive policymakers to assess policies and programs that can be effectively utilized to make recommendations for change.

Numerous current events within the criminal justice system have sparked many conversations regarding policy changes. The increasing prevalence of violence against women (VAW) within the criminal justice system is founded on gender-based inequality. It is regarded as a violation of human rights. The exhibition of deep-rooted gender-based violence and inequality leads to sexual, physical, economic, and psychological suffering and harm for women in the private and public spheres. Despite the substantial efforts toward advancing strategies and policies on gender equality, scholars and researchers have established that women continue to endure severe forms of violence.

There are numerous criminal justice policies related to the increasing prevalence of violence against women. The introduction of new policies concerning domestic abuse and violence against women aims to minimize violence and accentuate abuse, especially control and coercion. The new legislation by the British government overlooks the gendered nature of domestic violence and abuse against women. It has a synergy with international and national strategies to end domestic violence against women. The increasing occurrence of violence against women in the criminal justice system generates significant obstacles to achieving justice for everyone. This issue disproportionately impacts women who still endure significant barriers to acquiring justice as witnesses, victims, prisoners, or alleged offenders.
