NOTE: Every essay should have a Works Cited page, and they should cite AT LEAST their copy of The Scarlet Letter. The Works Cited page is a separate page, and that page DOES NOT count toward your page count.
You will be writing a comparative analysis essay for two elements of your choosing from The Scarlet Letter. Using the planning you have already done and the text evidence you have already gathered, you will construct a well-developed essay comparing those two elements and using that comparison to support an argument about the book and your interpretation of the story.
Your essay should include the following elements:
Clearly defined points of comparison
An organized approach (side-by-side or point-by-point)
A thesis statement/claim that identifies the argument being made and outlines the method for making that argument.
Body paragraphs that are well-constructed (T.E.X.A.S)
Text evidence
Consult Chapter 14 in your textbook, Everyone is an Author, for further guidance on Analytical Writing.
Rememeber: the key to analysis is answering the questions “Why?” and “How?” Don’t forget that step!
