Week 1
Due Sunday, July 10 before 11:59pm
This semester, we will be focusing on writing a research paper. The research paper will cover school crime. This week, you will read some research on school crime that I have provided. Next week, you will conduct a search of the literature and find additional research on the specific aspect of school crime that you prefer to research and write about.
This week’s assignment has two parts. Complete them in separate documents and upload them each to the appropriate Dropbox folder.
Part 1: Literature Table
1. The Literature Table is a tool for you to organize what you’ve read. This will help you write your research paper, especially the Literature Review section.
2. Since this is a tool for you, you can decide how brief or lengthy each summary will be. Maybe you just want a sentence or two so you can remember which article is which. Or maybe you want to include a lot of the information that you might use in your paper.
3. Either way, your summary needs to be in your own words. Not only is this appropriate for all assignments, but it’s also good for your understanding of the article and it means you can use text from your table in your paper without worrying about plagiarism.
4. To help with paraphrasing, read the article, then put it away and write the summary for your Literature Table without looking at the article. Then go back to the article if you need to add exact numbers or other specific examples.
5. There is an example for you in the Assignments folder. You can download that document, delete the example row, and type your summaries directly into it.
