Introduction and Alignment
According to the CDC, “Health equity is achieved when every person has the opportunity to ‘attain his or her full health potential’ and no one is ‘disadvantaged from achieving this potential because of social position or other socially determined circumstances.’ Health inequities are reflected in differences in length of life; quality of life; rates of disease, disability, and death; severity of disease; and access to treatment.” In health, equity means that all people have the same or similar opportunities for health regardless of their social or economic status, the color of their skin, where they live, or other factors beyond their control. Health equity is about ensuring that everyone, regardless of circumstances, has the opportunity to be healthy, stay healthy, and live as long as possible. It is about fairness, justice, and human rights.
When Americans live in underserved areas, healthcare can be difficult to access. Living more than 20 miles from the closest physician can make it difficult for patients to receive quality care.
Upon completion of this assignment, you should be able to:
Research current healthcare equity and quality problems in the US healthcare system.
Read: Health Equity Matters: Bridging the Gap between Underserved Populations and Access to Care
Watch: Defining Quality: Aiming for a Better Health Care System (4:35)
Using Google Scholar to find scholarly sources
APA Style and Formatting Guide

List three reasons this is a problem for healthcare.
Give recommendations to solve the healthcare equity or quality issue.
Include a minimum of two peer reviewed supporting resources beyond the textbook.
Use the assignment rubric to guide your efforts and apply the current APA formatting style.
You will use this paper to answer a question related to a single aspect of physical aging (e.g., sarcopenia,
presbyopia) or single disease related to aging (e.g., cardiovascular disease, COPD). Your paper is an attempt to
write a well-organized answer to whatever question you decide on, while using facts from different sources as a
support for your answer. Your paper should not just be a description of the process/disease you choose,
although an adequate description will be necessary. You will need to develop and answer a question that
involves the disease (e.g., are there new revolutionary treatments for this, and are they more effective? How
does this disease affect the economy? How does this disease affect the person’s mental health?) You will need
to integrate (synthesize) information, which can be challenging.
In this project, you will review and integrate information from at least 7 scientific journal articles, such as
Journal of Gerontology, Journal of the American Medical Association, New England Journal of Medicine,
Neurology, etc. The textbook does not count toward the 7, but it may be used. Websites and government reports
do not count toward the 7, but may be used, as long as they are reputable; don’t use something from a health
blog (e.g., naturalnews.com, healthfreedom.news) because blogs like these are inaccurate and misleading often
for the purpose of generating ad revenue or selling pricey supplements. All sources must be meaningfully
incorporated into the paper. Your goal will be to summarize, evaluate, and integrate information about your
The paper should be a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 9 pages of text, double-spaced, with one-inch margins,
Times New Roman font size 12. Please keep in mind that title page, titles, headings, reference section, etc. are
not considered text and do not count toward your page count.
few other points
1. Use headings and sub-headings. They help orient the reader in the paper.
2. Keep things together that belong together. That is, keep the paper organized. Be sure that everything under
one heading in your outline is about the same general topic.
3. Last but not least, avoid quotations! Many points will be taken off for excessive use of quotes. You may use
a maximum of 2 quotes, and each may be no longer than two lines.
1. Tell the reader what you are going to say. Start by saying something about the topic and why it is
important. State what the purpose of your paper is. Say something like “The purpose is to discuss xy.
Specifically, I will discuss a, b, and c.” There could also be either two subtopics (a and b) or even four or more
subtopics, although too many subtopics often means an unwieldy paper.
2. Say it (main body of the paper). This should include the points from the statement of purpose. If you say
you will talk about a, b, and c, then there should also be headings for a, b, and c. Integrate your sources to
talk about your topic and sub-topics in a clear, detailed way.
3. Tell the reader what you’ve said (statement of summary and conclusion). This is where you elaborate
and show the reader how it all comes together. This is also called synthesis. This is a very important section.
Suggest avenues for future research.
Journal Article Review –
The Bullwhip Effect: Progress Trends and Directions
It is vital that students are reading the current research in the field while demonstrating that they can both interpret and synthesize the materials into their decision-making.
Further, management and leadership professionals are expected to communicate their findings to their supervisors to create valued recommendations for action.
Given this, we will read/review and analyze academic peer-reviewed journal articles during this course, specifically in healthcare operations and supply chain management and/or strategic management. These may simply be on current health care management issues.
Students will be expected to submit a well-synthesized analysis of each article that incorporates both a brief summary of the key components of the article and how the article ties together with previous readings in the course. The purpose is to learn how to combine resources while describing/expanding upon the information both referencing materials and demonstrating aligned original thought.
Each paper will be 2-page long with 1.5 spacing and Times Roman Font (only includes content not to include Title Page, Heading, or Bibliography. Students should use APA formatting with references not to be included on the 2 page assignment either.
Summary- Include your main ideas and a summary of your findings
Quality-Discuss how this article enhances, or disrupts quality in health care
Application-Discuss how you can apply this to your current or future job
Writing Skills-make sure this is in APA format with excellent grammar and punctuation

In working with teams, Liebler & McConnell (2021) have identified the “coaster” as a problem in working with committees and teams. This individual “contributes minimally to the team’s work, if at all, but stands to share the credit when the team, carried forward by its productive members, registers successes” (p. 164).
What are some effective strategies to deal with these types of individuals?

An information asset is a body of information defined and managed as a standalone, single unit that can be shared and exploited to the organization’s benefit. It is referred to as an asset because it has financial value to the organization. Enterprise-wide information assets that are common to large health care organizations include billing systems, EHR/EMR, master patient index, clinical automation systems, patient portals, personal health records, telemedicine, health information exchange (HIE), clinical applications (lab, pharmacy), etc.
The enterprise data warehouse (EDW) is a repository of high-value data from different information assets and corporate systems or applications. The data contained in an EDW can be integrated for many strategic uses across the enterprise. For example, strategic objectives might include activities and initiatives to improve quality, safety, cost, productivity, etc.
To complete Part 4, conduct research into the topic of data warehousing in health care organizations and then answer the following:
1. List the benefits of an EDW to a health care organization.
2. Prepare a strategic objective and explain how it could be facilitated through use of a data warehouse.
3. Select two information assets from the list above. Then, through a data warehouse, analyze and demonstrate how data from those two assets could accomplish the identified strategic objective.

Submitting your assignment in APA format means, at a minimum, you will need the following:
Title slide: Remember the running head. The title should be in all capitals.
Length: 8 slides minimum
Body slides: This begins on the slide following the title slide and must be double-spaced (be careful not to triple- or quadruple-space between paragraphs). The typeface should be 12-pt. Times Roman or 12-pt. Courier in regular black type. Do not use color, bold type, or italics, except as required for APA-level headings and references. The deliverable length of the body of your presentation for this assignment is 8 slides. In-body academic citations to support your decisions and analysis are required. A variety of academic sources is encouraged.
