Directions: There are several cases presented each chapter. You may choose any two cases presented in these chapters (not mandatory but consider choosing one case from each chapter covered this week) and answer the questions that follow.
For example, if you choose the case on page 196: EMTALA Violated.
Read the case and under your table (Part 1) type the name of the case (you do NOT need to type the actual case). Then answer the 6 questions for this case: 1. What is the main issues in this case?
2. What ethical theories, principles, and values are of concern? Describe them.
3. What action can be taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future?
4. What could have been done to prevent the ethical and legal issues from occurring in the first place?
5. If you were the judge in this case, what would you do in light of the American Public Health Association’s comments?
6. Describe both the hospital’s and physician’s ethical and legal responsibilities.
Once you have completed the table with all sections filled in (Part 1) and the two case studies (Part 2), submit your finished document in the homework to be graded.
