This module discussion asks you to analyze the myths of Hercules, Oedipus, and Gilgamesh. Please plan on using specific evidence from the myth in answering both prompts below. Remember, it’s less about the “right” answer than it is doing the deep thinking and presenting your reasoning.
Part A: Applying the Psychological Approach. Psychology would not exist until millennia after these myths were composed, but each of these characters struggles with psychological flaws. Using the psychological approach outlined in the module exploration, analyze these three myths, not only identifying flaws but tracing through the narrative whether and how much the character grew from their flaws.
Part B: Applying the Philosophical Approach. The Oedipus myth discusses the relationship between fate and free will, Gilgamesh faces his own impending death, and Hercules is a case studying telling right from wrong. Take time to analyze these myths using the philosophical approach as detailed in the module exploration. What sorts of philosophical questions are these myths discussing, and what do they have to say about these questions?
