1. Sign up on New York Fashion Week website: https://app.nyfw.com/home. You can watch latest designer shows on this website for Free. There are several other resources that you may find interesting to explore.
2. Review the shows featured under “Spotlight on Black Designers”. There is total 9 shows from Fall/Winter 2023 (February). Select and review TWO designer shows and develop a fashion show analysis report for each designer. Include information on the following topics:
a. Designer name, photo and identify show season (Fall/Winter or Spring)
b. Brief descriiption of the designers (5-8 sentences): This should cover designer’s background, education, where the designer work, whether they are newcomers or old favorites, type of consumers to whom designers usually appeals, specific design features the designer is famous for etc. Avoid copying and pasting designer biographies from other websites. Use the provided prompts to discuss designer background,
c. Include photos of three distinctive pieces from the show you reviewed that you liked the most. Briefly discuss the major silhouettes, colors, fabrics or other characteristics such as garment details, motifs, patterns, textures, accessories etc. presented in designer’s collection. Does the silhouette related to any historic time periods you learned in Chapter-1? Is it modified or simply carried over? If modified, how has it been changed and what factors (such as inflation, COVID, technological advancement, political factors etc.) might have influenced those changes?
d. Provide your evaluation of the garments presented in the show in terms of overall design appeal and consumer acceptance. Suggest ideas about how garments or looks could be modified for better consumer acceptance/wearability.
